Danskin Leggings - Should They Also Be Casual Wear or for the Gym Only?

Danskin Leggings
There was a time when you could only get Danskin leggings at a specialty store if you were lets say, taking a ballet class or you were an avid dancer. Ladies leggings have evolved over the years to where you can buy them literally anywhere. The Danskin brand is now even being sold at Walmart and Target. They've broadened their target audience from dancers to just about anyone. They're following the fashion trends, so it's not just a shot in the dark. Hey, if you're a company that makes cotton lycra leggings and they're suddenly a hot fashion trend, you go with it, right.
Danskin now offers plus sized leggings as well. It's a nice addition and shows that they are understanding the people who are actually buying their products and wanting to make a pair of leggings that fits properly.
Danskin Leggings with Supplex: The "Stretchfit Body" Legging
These are great for two things, a higher impact/intensity workout or casual wear. Yes, GREAT for both. The "Supplex" with Lycra Capri length leggings are breathable and hug you where you need it. There are tons of reviews all over the internet that call these the most slimming of the black legging category. They're slimming without showing that they're 'slimming' as well, unlike the Spanx version that is slimming, but it shows the control top all the way down to the mid thigh area.
The Stretchfit Danskin legging has a compression feature around the hip area the really smoothes you out and hold you in where you need it. This makes a hard workout feel supported and also works for if you're planning on wearing the leggings casually. They are made of Coolmax fabric, so they'll stay dry and you'll stay cool while wearing them.
My one complaint would be that they're a tad too thin, they should make the fabric a tiny bit thicker so that they don't feel 'see through' at all. They're of course not see through, but when a legging fabric is a little bit thicker it's not something I even think about.
Other than for a Workout, How do I wear Leggings Casually?
Well, the great thing about ladies leggings is that they're comfortable and you'll feel good in them on a fat day, a thin day and during and after pregnancy. The criticism they've received from the fashion world is that they've become a lazy outfit choice. Much like how the Juicy Couture sweat suit blew up in all directions with the sweat suit being an anytime and all the time fashion choice. We were all probably excited that what felt like pajamas was now fashionable, so we really took it and ran with it. A little bit of the same thing has happened with leggings. They came back into fashion on the runways and they were somewhat hated at first by the general jean wearing public. But slowly, like fairy dust, they've been sprinkled into every store around and once everyone got past their initial judgement, they realized they're pretty stinking comfortable.
Here are a few simple tips for pulling the right items out of your closet to put together an outfit around leggings.
How to wear leggings and 'get away with it':
1. Don't wear a tight top. The leggings are so fitted that you need something billowy or a little bulkier on top to balance them out. Try a large tunic or a dress that falls above the knee.
2. Try them with a miniskirt. This takes the worry about the tightness around your hips and thighs out of the equation. Try a longer top, denim mini, black capri length leggings and ballet flats.
3. If you're wearing them as pants, you better own it and do it right. Get a really high quality pair (like the Danskin Stretchfit ones mentioned above) that won't fade and look bad. If you're bad ass, try some leather leggings! Either way, wear them with a tunic and maybe some short heels. Keep the rest of your look fairly dressy.

Should Leggings be Worn Outside of the Gym?
See results without votingComments
It's time that we ALL wear leggings. The more that people wear leggings as everyday casual wear, the sooner leggings will just be another apparel choice. Get over the fashionista and body image constraints and just wear them. You know you want to, you know they'll be more comfortable than the constrictive clothes you wear now. Go for it. Enjoy the fit, feel and look of leggings - just wear them. Everyone looks good in leggings and some look great. Choose a well made pair - not with cotton fibers that bag out over time but a high tech fiber that retains its shape. Go for the comfort and support. Leggings that go to the ankle have a greater positive visual aesthetic than capri style that chop the leg. Plus the full length leggings support you from your ankle to your waist and give you an energetic lift. Wear them and enjoy!
